Who You Are
You are an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) with a robust background in social work, especially in the children and families sector. You have a passion for improving outcomes for looked after children through independent scrutiny and challenge. With a strong understanding of regulations and experience in conducting reviews, you are committed to ensuring that each child's care plan is both comprehensive and well-implemented.
What the Job Involves
As an Independent Reviewing Officer, you will chair statutory Looked After Child (LAC) reviews in accordance with the Care Planning Regulations and IRO Handbook. Your role will involve ensuring that care plans accurately reflect the child's needs and that they are progressing effectively. Additionally, you will promote the participation of children, families, and professionals in the review process, monitor the implementation of review decisions, and escalate any concerns when necessary. You are responsible for maintaining accurate records and completing review documentation within specified timescales.
Skills
- Qualified Social Worker (DipSW/CQSW or equivalent)
- Social Work England registration
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience
- Previous IRO experience
- Strong knowledge of Children Act 1989
- Familiarity with Care Planning, Placement, and Case Review Regulations
- Independent scrutiny and challenge abilities
- Ability to travel to placements
- Strong communication skills
- Multi-agency working skills
